                      Universal English Department Policies:

                      Zero Policy

                      Failure/Remediation Policy

                      Absence Policy

                      Late Work

                      Extra Credit Policy

Students who do not turn in work will receive a zero for the grade.

If a student turns in an assignment by the end of the quarter without a Mercy Pass and/or meets with a teacher for remediation then the zero will change to 60% of the original grade value.

As per the school policy, if a student fails first quarter, or any quarter after, the teacher will contact the parent, the guidance counselor, other discipline teachers, and the administrator to alert them of the failure.

In addition, the teacher will request a parent/student conference to collaborate on the PEP and discuss strategies for passing.

As per the school policy, students have up to two class days to make up late work due to an absence. (See Agenda for more details)

The teacher will record all absences and will contact the parent and guidance counselor if the student earns three consecutive absences.

Students will receive two Mercy Passes per quarter to use for late assignments. With a Mercy Pass, assignments will be graded for mastery.

Students must turn in the Mercy Pass with the assignment by a re-negotiated due date.

Extra credit is any assignment or enrichment completed in addition to regular course work that relates to the standard course of study.  It may not consist of manual labor or anything that requires a purchase.

Students may earn up to a two percent grade letter boost through participation in extra credit.
